Dyna Metal

Metal has applications in residential construction as diverse as your imagination. Dyna Contracting has been using the metal shop for everything from hidden counter supports, blackened steel fireplace surrounds, gates, carports, interior and exterior handrails, stairs, and deck railings and much more. All projects are custom fabricated in our welding shop utilizing raw steel, stainless steel, or aluminum.

Dyna Metal specializes in cable railings, which are swaged on-site using the hidden Ultra-tec tensioning system and can be fitted with wood handrails, an option on any type of railing. In addition to the standard powder coated finish, Dyna has developed a variety of natural steel patinas for interior work. These finishes exemplify contemporary northwest architecture, as do our exterior cable railings. However, we have experience with many traditional styles as well.

Dyna Metal is a small shop where craftsmanship and attention to detail are paramount. With the business and labor resources of Dyna Contracting at his disposal, shop manager Caleb Carlson maintains a hands-on approach to custom fabrication. His services include exploring design and construction details with architects and clients, taking site measurements, fabricating, and installation. The client benefits from a critical eye and skilled hands at every step of the process and Caleb gets the joy of donning coveralls, turning up the radio, and putting his considerable skill and talent to work.

Caleb Carlson

Metalworker

Caleb's passion for welding began at a young age when he first tinkered with building bicycle frames in shop class in High School. He then became sidetracked with a degree in Oceanography at OSU followed by an early career in being a ski-bum and in fine woodworking. While running a cabinet shop in Sandpoint, Idaho for 10 years, Caleb developed his knowledge of custom building. His shop built everything from timber-frame stairs to furniture grade cabinetry. During this period Caleb rediscovered welding, using steel to reinforce wood projects, build shop tools, and to experiment in modern furniture.

Caleb came to Seattle seeking greater work challenges and sailing opportunities and soon found an aluminum sailboat project and a job in the Dyna metal shop. His background in fine woodworking and creative problem solving has been a huge asset in the architectural metalworking field. Caleb knows how the components of a building work together structurally and aesthetically, and understands the construction process and how to work as a team with the other trades in order to get the job done right.

Caleb enjoys commuting on his homemade bicycle, dreaming about sailing while working on his boat, and adventuring with his wife Holly.
